Eleemosynary at the 4th Street Theater
Written by by award-winning local playwright Lee Blessing, Eleemosynary (meaning "charitable") examines the delicate relationship of three singular women: the grandmother, strong-willed and eccentric Dorothea; her brilliant daughter, Artie (Artemis), who has fled the stifling domination of her mother; and Artie's daughter, Echo, a child of exceptional intellect and sensitivity whom Artie has abandoned to an upbringing by Dorothea. The play, winner of the 1997 LA Drama Critics Circle Award, returns to the city in which it was first produced to mark its 20-year anniversary. Nov. 3rd-6th and 10-13th.
