You may have heard that there's a city election today. In addition to the usual opportunities to keep or change mayors and council members, voters in St. Paul get to decide whether to join the grand experiment taking place across the river and usher in Instant Runoff Voting (IRV), officially known as ranked choice voting. Meanwhile, voters in Minneapolis may vote their first, second, and third choices for the two independent seats on the Board of Estimate & Taxation while simultaneously voting to eliminate those very same positions.

We apologize that we can't offer any assistance to our friends on the eastern banks of the Mississippi (though you may find this page helpful), but since we did make a crib sheet to help us keep track of our own voting preferences here in Minneapolis, we thought we may as well make it available to other Minneapolitans to print out, fill in the blanks, and bring with them to the polls on Tuesday.

The PDF below is set up with four DIY sample ballots on one standard letter-size page, so that you can share them with friends and family -- and because we wanted to keep them small and we hate to waste paper. Minneapolis voters can get an official full-size sample ballot, with choices specific to their corner of the city, here, and use that information to note their own choices on the more compact MOQ version below.

Happy voting to all. And to our friends in St. Paul: we'll let you know how that whole ranked choice thing works out for us.
